Owatonna High School brings a little bit of joy into the school year with their holiday themed, extracurricular singing troupe- The Carolers. The auditions to become a member of the 2015 Carolers were just held. With about 30 current members, comprised of returners from the previous year, and new students involved, Mr. Harris stated, “This year was the strongest audition year we’ve had in a long time and was very competitive.” After two days of hour long auditions, half of the 2015 Carolers are new members. Carolers practice began on Oct. 8. From then on, they will continue practice until the end December, meeting at least once a week.

The main goal of carolers is to spread joy to others, and have fun while doing it.

— Ryan Huxford

During the caroling season, the students don colorful robes of red and green, along with large matching hats. Senior and returning caroler Ryan Huxford said, “The main goal of carolers is to spread joy to others, and have fun while doing it. Oh, also the cookies!” The Carolers will travel around the town of Owatonna, singing their songs at nursing homes, the hospital and elementary schools. They also are the opening act for the Christmas concert at OHS, in December.
