Adele says “Hello” to the top of the charts
The name that has taken over the music charts during the months of October and November is Adele. The British artist surprised waves of people when she quickly announced the release of the first single off her new album, 25. Hello premiered on Oct. 22. The sepia- toned music video was directed by award winning Xavier Dolan. It is the first music video shot with IMAX cameras and is also the first music video to break Vevo’s 24 hour most viewed record, a record previously held by Taylor Swift. The music video matches the song, filled with emotion and fueled by the feelings someone gets when they lose someone they once cared for. The music video stars American actor Tristan Wilds, who plays Adele’s former lover in the music video. Although Tristan and Adele never shot a scene together, the music video manages to make watchers feel heartbroken for them.
25 will include eleven new songs, including Hello and When We Were Young, which she has performed live at The Church Studios for Vevo’s website. In part of the huge success of ‘Hello’, many people in and out of the music industry suspect her new album will sell over one to two million units in the album’s first week of release. According to The Verge, a major music streaming app and website, Spotify, may not stream Adele’s new record. People eager to hear Adele’s new album will most likely have to buy it. As reported by Hits Daily Double, it seems that with or without free streaming, Adele’s new album is already approaching 500 thousand pre-orders. With a huge demand for her music, it would not be a surprise if Adele was to become the first artist to sell one million digital albums in a single week.
After she finished promoting and performing her last album, which she won six Grammys for, she decided to take a three year hiatus from music. Now that Adele is back with new music, there is obviously a new tone that comes with the new age she has transitioned to. When asked by SiriusXM about the vibe of her new album, Adele said, “There is some darkness on it, just because I like to do dramatic. I’m a bit of a drama queen…. This record is all about how I feel as opposed to how someone else has made me feel. It’s about how I made myself feel.” Adele made sure listeners are aware that although her last album was a break-up album, 25 will be a make-up record. 25 will also be a contrast to past albums because she has gotten married and had a child, making the experiences she writes about now different than experiences she wrote about in 19 and 21.
Adele’s new album can be pre-ordered on many websites, including Amazon, iTunes and Barnes & Noble. To hear Adele’s new single, Hello, listen and/or watch it on YouTube. The new album’s expected release date is Nov. 20, however, there are many playlists designed to keep your Adele addiction at bay until this date.
