An AMA-zing night
This past week, the American Music Awards aired on the ABC television network nationwide. There were many performers on the show that kept the anticipated nominees entertained as they waited to hear if they had been chosen as the winner of the award that they were nominated for. As the music industry’s finest showed up to perform, there were many awe-worthy moments that held the audience’s attention. Some of the most noteworthy performers included Jennifer Lopez, Ariana Grande and Celine Dion. Artists’ such as Selena Gomez and Justin Bieber also performed new music during the show, after having stepped away from music for a while.
Jennifer Lopez was not only the host of the 2015 AMA’s, but was also the show’s first performer. Lopez opened the show on Sunday night by performing a dance routine that featured some of the top music hits of 2015. The dance routine included hits originally performed by Bruno Mars, Beyoncé, Rihanna and Nicki Minaj. Each song that was included in the routine, at some point of this year, left an imprint on the music’s charts and also within the music industry. Lopez went above and beyond not only in her performances, but also in her attire, making ten outfit changes throughout the show.
Ariana Grande gave a performance that had viewers focused only on her when she sang her new single ‘Focus‘ for the first time during a 1930s themed performance. During the show, Grande was awarded Favorite Female Artist for pop/rock category, which left her speechless while accepting it. Lastly, Celine Dion’s performed Hymne à L’Amour, originally done by French singer Edith Piaf, in support of the many lives that were lost during the recent attacks in Paris, France. Throughout her performance, the camera panned to show audience members that were moved emotionally by the song, although she was singing in French, the raw emotion that filled her voice as she sang, was able to connect audience members listening to the meaning of her performance.
Selena Gomez was present at the AMA’s and performed her new song ‘Same Old Love‘. She had performed the song before, but never on an awards show. Her performance of Same Old Love follows the release of her new album ‘Revival‘. Justin Bieber was the last performer of the night and sang three new songs off of his newly released album, Purpose. Bieber began his performance by singing a slowed down acoustic version of his song What Do You Mean? before moving on to a more upbeat performance of Where Are U Now?, and finally closing the show with a dance-filled performance of Sorry, that included a wall of rain that fell down on Bieber as he sang.
Overall, Nov. 22, was a night to remember for the year of 2015. With performances that ranged from upbeat and fun to slow and emotional, there was not a lack of variety when it came to this year’s AMA’s. If anyone missed the airing of the AMA’s, they can still view the show as well as the highlights of it on ABC’s AMA website.
