The Owatonna Gymnastics team has started off their season with a strong performance against Red Wing at home. With an overall score of 143, they beat the season opening score of last year. In the following meet at Waconia, the overall score dipped slightly to result in 139. Though the score lowered, the Huskies still swept the competition on both jv and varsity. Last night Owatonna defeated the Mankato schools at home with a high score of 145.5.

Despite the decreased scores, Captain Grace Pick is holding onto high hopes. Pick said, “We just need to get more routines under our belts and gain confidence, but it looks like it’s going to be a great season.”

Head coach Tom Smith said, “They are one of the best teams in the state because they deserve to be! Through hard work and consistency they should stay there. They are a great team committed to following last year’s footsteps and a repeat trip to the state tournament!” Students can see the gymnastics team compete against multiple Big 9 teams and others on Jan. 7 at 11:00 a.m. at the Faribault Middle School.
