Team getting ready for the game

The Owatonna Girls Basketball team has an overall record of record 4-10, while posting a 4-7 Big Nine record, and are currently ranked ninth in the conference. While they are currently a sub .500 team, they hope to pick up a couple of key wins and make a playoff run. They lost a very tight game to Rochester Century, but hope to start a win streak starting with Northfield.

Even with their ups and downs, the team has been able to overcome many obstacles.  Junior captain and leading scorer Sarah Kingland said, “Even when we struggle during part of the game, we evaluate the way we’re playing and we push through it. My team doesn’t give up and gives every practice and game their all.” The young Huskies have only one senior, captain Sara Anderson, and only four juniors. They have 11 current underclassmen on their roster and are prepped to have lots of success within the next couple of years. Assistant coach Dan Leer said, “With having a young team there is a lot of learning curves. There has been a lot of good and not so good moments but it has been a very fun year.”  The Huskies will take on Northfield at 7:30 p.m on Saturday, Jan. 25 at OHS. This is a fundraiser event for Rachel’s Light.
