Netflixing

  1. The act of watching an entire season of a show in one season.
  2. A total valid excuse for avoiding social obligations.

“Sorry I can’t make it to the party tonight. I am netflixing.” (UrbanDictionary)   As the holiday season begins, so does the multitude of extended family reunions. This means you will be asked, “So, how is school going?”, “Have you been looking at colleges?” and my personal favorite, “Do you have a boyfriend?” You all know there is need to escape, as it is sometimes necessary to avoid said relatives. Enter Netflix. Propose to your guests a movie marathon. Get out the popcorn, Christmas cookies and hot chocolate.  Turn on the TV and voilá, no more inane conversations. Netflix was founded in 1997. Since then, stock prices have grown 600%, especially since their 2007 launch of the streaming of select movies and shows. This means members now do not have to wait the couple days to receive their desired DVD in the mail-they can play it immediately on their TV or Netflix app-enabled device whenever they want. With over 53 million subscribers in nearly 50 countries, the Netflix website describes its company as “the world’s leading Internet television network.” This is certainly true. Netflix has completely revolutionized the way we watch TV. For $8.99 a month, Netflix members are able to watch what they want, when they want. They also have the ability to start watching a movie on an iPad, pause it and continue playing it on their TV. Here are some of Magnet team’s favorites:

  •  Love Actually
  • Snowglobe
  • Snow & Snow 2
  • Trailer Park Boys X-Mas Special
  • Desperately Seeking Santa
  • The Legend of Frosty the Snowman
  • Yes, Virginia
  • Holidaze
  • Happy Christmas
  • Christmas with the Kranks

Coming next week: What to watch when you get sick of the holidays. Stay tuned.
