Girls Golf tees off the 2018 season

The Owatonna Girls Golf program is back in full swing this spring with a new looked to the roster. The team is looking forward to an exciting season out on the course, but the team can not kick off its season until the snow melts.

The team finished an exciting season last year filled with personal bests and learning experience. The team had to deal with the loss of older veteran players, so the younger players had to step up this year. Coach Tim Hunst said, “It’s been a crazy spring. We haven’t been able to get outside yet, so we’ve been limited to classroom and indoor practice. We’re hoping this melt goes quickly so we can get out and play.” The team consists of one sophomore and five freshmen. Greta Korbel was the top returning finisher in last year’s section tournament. She commented on what she’s looking forward to this season. She said, “I’m excited to improve this year, since our team is a lot of young girls, I’m looking forward to seeing the team improve over time.”

We’re hoping this melt goes quickly so we can get out and play.

The same scenario faces the girls this year. With a young roster, the team is looking forward to improvement and a bright future. Hopefully, the girls golf team will have an electric season filled with personal bests. The next tournament is scheduled for Tuesday, May 1 at 2:30 p.m. at Rochester Northern Hills Golf Course.
