These past two weeks have been filled with a great amount of AP tests. Including: biology, government, micro economics, literature, language, computer science principal, US history, chemistry, physics, calculus AB, calculus BC, psychology, and statistics.

OHS Counselor Ms. Sara Craig has been the AP Coordinator.

OHS’s block schedule can be hard to manage for AP tests due to testing only being once a year.  In November, OHS holds a single session of registration for kids who are in first semester block class or year long skinny, to be eligible to take the test required for that class. Since OHS is on a block schedule, they are able to allow a late registration in February for second semester block students. This is challenging for both classes of students because attendants in the class for a few weeks must decide if they will be taking the AP test for that class or not.

Junior Lola Berg took the AP tests for Statistics and Literature. Berg says, “The AP courses that are offered here (at OHS) are very helpful when you’re going into the AP test. Especially with Statistics, because you get a lot of information and get to do a lot of practice tests. They’re very helpful with knowing how to manage your time, getting all of the necessary information, and helps you know what to expect on the actual test”.

Taking the class first semester made taking the actual test in May a little challenging. I think Mr.Benson did a great job teaching the class and prepared us well enough, but it was still hard trying to remember everything he taught me when so much time had passed

OHS has multiple AP classes available with great teachers who prepare the students well.

OHS tries their best to announce and advertise when the registration deadline is for the tests which includes announcements, COMPASS newsletter, and on the website.

Junior Izzy Radel also took the AP statistics test. Radel says, “Taking the class first semester made taking the actual test in May a little challenging. I think Mr.Benson did a great job teaching the class and prepared us well enough, but it was still hard trying to remember everything he taught me when so much time had passed”.

On a typical test day the schedule would be as follows: students arrive at 7:30 a.m., the test begins on schedule at 8 a.m., students are able to take a break, and usually are done between 11:15 to 11:40 depending on what test is being taken. After students have lunch and then are required to go to their fourth hour.

The schedule differs with afternoon tests. Students attend first and second block, have a shorter lunch, then go take their test. For afternoon tests students should expect to finish any time between 3 to 3:30 p.m., again depending on the test being taken.

The official AP organization is in charge of what time and days the tests take place. Interestingly enough, all the AP tests around the nation are taken at exactly the same time, no matter what time zone.

The tests were taken on paper and on computers, as opposed to just on paper like they have done in the past.

Ms.Craig says, “I think the AP testing went well this year. This is always the most stressful two weeks of the school year for me, but I think it went very well. The tests are all packed and ready to be shipped out. For the most part it went well which makes me really happy.”

All written test results should be expected to come out around early July. Unknown publication time of digital test but, expected to be soon.

Due to the testing being within two weeks and some being multiple a day it can be  hard for students to balance this with their other classes. If students take five or more tests they are likely to miss a great amount of school which they will have to get caught up on later, before the school year ends. In some cases, students miss the full two weeks of class, which can be very challenging.

Because of the great amount of testing that has taken place, there has been a change with the bell schedule. During testing the counselors ask the custodians to turn them off so students do not get disturbed by the sound. Due to this, school bells are not used during any AP testing.
